This hand-made screen print of the 'Climate Carousel' ('Klima-Karussell'), is an ironic take on the "task force" created by the German government to tackle the challenges of the climate emergency. First this motive was painted at an asylum close to Germany's capital Berlin, then also in Hamburg right opposite Facebook headquarters Germany. As being one of the countries with the strongest economy in Europe its government was chosen as representatives of people in power failing to act when it is most needed. The writing on top of the carousel reads: "erlauben" (to allow), "ermöglichen" (to make possible) and "erleichtern" (to facilitate), which resembles the idleness of politicians towards regulating the economy - in this case the 5 biggest producers of CO2 in Germany (Lufthansa, RWE, BASF, Heidelberg Cement and VW). Water is essential for humans and yet it is the perfect tool to distinguish between the poor and the rich. While it is so cheap that you can bath in it in the Western world, people in the poorest parts of the world spend the majority of their income for its supply. A man is seen typing a message 'Another day in paradise' while ignoring the food falling out of a trash can strapped to his back. The print addresses the ignorance of people living in the industrialised world or so called "first" world. Observing from the outside it seems like paradise. People are well fed, there is education for everyone, good health systems, social nets, absence of wars, beautiful landscapes...
Even though we produce enough food to feed the entire world, there are still close to 1 billion people starving worldwide. Huge quantities of edible food are thrown away. The reasons might be diverse, ranging from the odd fruit that does not look that nice anymore to farmers tossing tons of overproduced vegetables on the streets to protest against foreign imports. In Germany, for example, which is often regarded as the forerunner of recycling and waste handling, 82 kg of edible food are disposed per person per year. Globally, it is estimated that 1.3 billion tons of food get wasted each year. Overproduction and food waste is not only a problem because of filling up landfills but the energy wasted to produce, transport and finally dispose of these foods.

A little girl is inspecting the world using a stethoscope, looking at the observer as if she wants to ask: “don’t you hear it??” Kids always listen to the world, but the grown-ups become deaf and tell the kids to “be realistic”. A halftone print gives you the illusion of looking at a grey-and-white picture, even though the picture is made only of black dots (much like the photos in old newspapers). With increased distance our eyes merge these differences into shades of grey.
The quote “I think we are all blind. We are blind people that can see but that do not look” is taken from Jose Saramago’s novel ‘Blindness’. Even though we might see other people, the problems, suffering and destruction, we often fail to perceive them. Just like a halftone, you have to look closely in order to see its core and not just shades.

I first developed this motive in 2015 and later painted it at a festival south of Paris in 2017. Back then it was painted in grey with a crying goddess of liberty being the centre piece. It was a reminder of the reduction of personal liberties and the rise of right-wing rhetoric as a result of the attack on the Bataclan theatre in Paris in 2015 (original piece). As the Festival itself took place at a castle that had been used by the Francoist it was very fitting this perspective.
Later, I redid the motive for a private commission on a Berlin wall. Now, painted in bright colours the idea was to have an uplifting motive of women fighting for their rights rather than being passive (Liberte reloaded).
As Freedom has become the phrase our time. Just about one year ago, Russia invaded the Ukraine, who since then has fought for its freedom. For months, the people of Iran are fighting in a new revolution for the rights and lives of Iranian women and democracy.
Everywhere in the world there is a lack of equal rights for all genders and the International Women’s Day on 8th of March is a reminder of that. On this occasion, the limited-edition screen print was officially released on the 8th of March 2023.

People of Veddel were photographed and the pictures converted into halftone images. To increase the level of anonymity but moreover to stay true to the concept of creating faces representing the people, parts of the faces where combined to create totally new faces. These are embedded into a repetitive pattern resembling old wallpapers which includes elements representing the neighbourhood and its people. These prints are accompanying the project “Gesichter der Veddel” (Faces of Veddel) as part of redesigning the Veddel Metro Station in Hamburg, Germany. Masks and China have been become synonyms for the Corona virus outbreak. But there is another fight going on, the fight for democracy and basic human rights. This is a homage to the young and old people in Hong Kong demanding the right of being self confident human beings. The glasses and mask were the same I wear when painting, but here combined with a plastic helmet and a black umbrella bearing a lotus are the tools of resistance fighters. This pattern is taken from the motive Still Love (available as a screen print or as an original on canvas) and shows an assembly of sex toys forming what looks like the pattern of a baroque wallpaper. It plays with the assumption that the female sexuality is considered private while the female body is objectified publicly via media and advertisement. Still Love shows a seemingly boring and pleasing still life. But what kind of flowers look like that? Well those that are made out of soft tampons. The motive addresses the issue that while the female body is often sexualised and dragged into the public by the media, advertisement, pornography or prostitution, female sexuality and normal bodily functions are often considered private (for example period shaming). What is supposed to be behind closed doors is taken into the public and shown as what it is: normal and beautiful.
