Last week I had the great privilege to be painting during the G20 summit, just meters away from Hamburg’s conference centre. The shop owners of Goldmarie-shop had asked me to paint a tarp that was going to be installed in front of the shop to protect the shop-windows. The idea was to paint something positive (still sneaking in some subtle critique) and show that anti-G20 protest can also be peaceful. I was very happy to meet DJ NappyG from New York who swiftly set up his equipment and played the entire day. The day was beautiful, painting, bbq with the neighbors, music, meeting happy people and a very friendly and peaceful evening.
The second day, more shops were boarded up and I found another wall at the Goldig shop just next corner and another one was painted by my friend Bona at third shop.
The work has been featured in national Television, Radio and print media like ARD, the Deutschlandfunk-Kultur and the FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), showing that political protest can also be colourful.
