“Retirement (is about exploring your wide open future)”
The quote was taken from an advertisement of a German car company (youtube link). Quite cynical given the low income of retired people. Old people collecting returnable bottles have become a common sight in Germany’s streets. What is one’s worth in a society aimed at performance and consumerism?
In the pattern in the background one can identify the logo of the job center, the dole, the food bank and the green dot, its colours and arrangement resemble that of a famous fashion brand.
The mural was painted in Tübingen, October 2024 as part of the zerteilt exhibition at Shedhalle.
A version on canvas is currently on display at LAPIZ solo show “Another day in paradise” at the Deutsche Umwelthilfe.
