End of May I was invited to paint at the Kura Urban Art Festival in Wittenberg, Germany.

The motivation for the event ‘Pin the hole’ was to paint something that sheds light onto “demanding social themes” and to paint it big. It was perfect for my newest piece of a giant tank, that addresses Germany’s arms sales and its responsibility of the resulting conflicts.

But as it is with “social demanding themes” the public might not be behind it all the way. When I wanted to finish the first day with a giant tank, I had received so much backlash, that I decided to pull through and finish the entire piece in one go. Mind you, I had planned two full days but only had one. In the end people loved it, but I would have appreciated a bit more patience from the crowd. However, I want to take the opportunity and express my appreciation for the organisers of the event, who stood behind me the entire time!

The video above shows the creation process involved in making this piece (from the design, to the cutting and finally painting it).

For those of you who speak German (or are up for a google-translate-adventure), here is a link to a local newspaper, describing the piece. An even better description can be found here.
