Thea Lang Collecive is a symbiosis of the colorful stencils of Hamburg-based LAPIZ and the illustrative oil paintings of Bremen-based Elmar Karla. The artists pass canvases back and forth between their home cities, blanketing each with sedimentary layers of archetypal imagery. The collective crafts a backwards celebration of the nihilistic suspicion that every original idea’s been had. Thus Thea Lang steals from pop culture, but they also steal from each other, elaborating on the other’s talents with each pass of the canvas. This inaugural show centres around their latest collaborative works, with supporting selections from each member’s individual oeuvre.
